3 Questions You Need to Ask Before You Buy a Power Nailer
Using a hand held hammer to drive nails is almost a thing of the past. I didn’t think it would ever happen but it looks like the hammer is being replaced with the power nailer.
The power nailer is a very efficient tool that will drive a lot of nails in a short period of time. Doing a job in less time means more money! This feature alone makes the power nailer very popular with construction crews.
You have two choices of power nailers to choose from. A stick power nailer which uses a strip of nails that slide into the nailer, similar to loading a staple gun. On average you get about 50 nails per strip. Usually a strip power nailer is used for small projects. If you have a larger project you might want to go with a coil power nailer. They can hold up to 300 nails at a time.
Before you buy a power nailer you need consider a few things to help the buying process much easier and less confusing.
- What kind of projects you will be using the power nailer for? If you are going to be adding a deck or additional room you will need to go with a framing nailer. If you are going to be building furniture or adding molding a finish nailer is what you need.
- Do you have an air compressor to provide power to the nailer? If not, you will need to purchase an air compressor or maybe you will want to buy a cordless power nailer.
- What kind of nails will you need? Some power nailer manufactures provide nails for their on nailers. It is very important to make sure you have the right kind of nails to fit your power nailer.
I would highly recommend a cordless power nailer because the main advantage would be you do not need an air compressor. The down side to a cordless power nailer is the cost. You will pay more for a cordless power nailer but the convenience and ease of operation will make it worth it. You will think you have a third hand.
The no one thing you will want to do before you start using your power nailer is to read the instructions and follow all safety rules.
